Falcon

What my plan was, I can’t even begin to remember. I watch her movements through the rooms. When she isn’t in my sight, she’s in my mind. Dylan has become as much a watcher as we are. Lingering with his potent fragrance, driving us wild while we watch her and him watching her.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. I lean back in my computer chair, watching the screen as she goes from person to person, talking for a few moments before moving on. My omega follows her closely.

It wasn’t supposed to feel like this.

I turn away, looking away from the room and out at the landscape. Grey clouds are rolling in. The weather is taking a turn for the worse. Silas and Grayson are scrambling with the staff to move the events planned for the next few days inside, and the ones that can’t be brought in, to be replaced.

And I’m up here…dealing with this shit.

I turn back to the screen and pick up the phone. “Simon, take them to the Fortress and wait for me there.”

I swing my jacket over my shoulders and straighten my shirt. This unpleasantness is best to be done right now, before I lose my mind and do something I regret. I would not be suited for a life behind bars.

I let all thoughts of Dylan and Onyx slip into the back of mind, lest I tarnish them with the foul deeds I have to perform.

I don’t pause to ready myself. I march into the room, instantly taking in the seven alphas lounging around the immense conference table. Three of them are so similar in colour of red hair, blue eyes, and too much weight in their mid-section that I can’t even distinguish them from the other. The other four are just average alphas, nothing notable about them. I dismiss them from my mind and focus on the woman. She’s got steel hair and a pinched nose with heavy blue eyeshadow on. Her dress suit is perfectly tailored for her and screams wealth, as does the thick rope of pearls around her neck and the jewel-encrusted brooch pinned on her chest.

“Ah, the Empress of Hastings.” I give her a mock bow and smile through my teeth.

“We’re staying, Treyfield, set us up with rooms.” Her voice is low and deep and full of command.

I glance at her large entourage and spot the thin woman almost cowering against the wall.

“I believe I told you not to set foot in my sight ever again,” I say with deadly warning.

The woman shrinks back. Her thick, dark brown hair is too shiny, her eyes too large. Her dress is as expensive as the suit. I know the omega can’t afford it, which means Vienne Hastings organised this. Just like she organised the event that almost cost me my omega.

“Treyfield, I want to speak to my son.”

“You’ll remove yourself as soon as the weather lets up,” I growl. “Simon will show you to your rooms.”

Simon, who has been silent and invisible at my side, nods and steps forward.
